ECONOMIC PROFILE
According to the Office of National Statistics (ONS) in 2019, 9.5% of the population of Exeter was income-deprived. Of 316 local authorities in England, Exeter is ranked 198th most income-deprived.

The image above shows Pinhoe is an area of LOW deprivation and, along with Monkerton, is one of England’s top 20% LEAST income deprived areas. This is similar to neighbouring East Devon which is ranked 231st, even across such a wide district area.
But, as ever, the detail reveals a more complex picture: Pinhoe as a city ward includes Summerway, a residential area on the edge of Whipton which ONS information shows as one of the lower income areas of Exeter and one of the 20% most income deprived in England. And Pinhoe’s county boundaries include areas of Beacon Heath and Mincinglake which again fall into contrasting statistical analysis.
EXETER AND EAST DEVON GROWTH POINT
Pinhoe has been designated an area of economic growth by Exeter City Council. Alongside Exeter Airport, Exeter Science Park and educational facilities being developed at SkyPark, the Exeter and East Devon Growth Point is described as:
a dynamic public/private sector partnership formed in 2008 with the aim of delivering a major growth programme worth more than £2 billion
“Covering the whole of Exeter and parts of the administrative areas of East Devon District Council, Devon County Council and Teignbridge District Council, the programme is on track to deliver around 25,000 new homes and over 25,000 jobs in the period up to 2026.
“This initiative is bringing a wealth of business and employment developments to the area as well as improved infrastructure. The lists below comprise projects that have been completed recently or are in the planning or construction stage.
